Acting Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Hilda Senthumule, testified before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption, claiming she was left in the dark regarding the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team.

According to Senthumule, she only became aware of Minister Senzo Mchunu’s December 2024 directive more than a month after it was issued.

The directive, dated New Year’s Eve, was reportedly signed while Senthumule was away on leave with her family.

Senthumule informed evidence leaders that she was never consulted or "plugged into" the decision-making process.

She testified that the news only reached her via correspondence from suspended Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya.

"I never actually saw at that time the 31st December letter," Senthumule stated. "I only saw it being made reference of in the letter General Sibiya wrote to me. So in essence, I then learnt of the disbandment in that particular letter of the 4th of February."
