South Africa didn’t just host a golf tournament, it delivered a spectacle, even if the fairytale ending slipped just out of reach for the home crowd at LIV Golf Johannesburg 2026.

With thousands lining the fairways at Steyn City, the energy felt closer to a cup final than a traditional day on the course.

The noise, the colour, and the unwavering backing for the all-South African Southern Guards GC turned the final round into something far bigger than golf.

But standing in the way of that moment was Bryson DeChambeau. Calm under pressure, he once again proved why he is one of the standout figures on the LIV circuit.

Locked alongside Jon Rahm after four rounds at 26-under-par, DeChambeau stepped up when it mattered most, clinching victory with a composed birdie in the playoff.

It capped off a remarkable run for the American, who not only secured back-to-back wins but also led his side, Crushers GC, to team honours.

Their late surge saw them edge out the Southern Guards in a tightly contested battle that kept fans engaged until the very last hole.

For the South Africans, there was still plenty to celebrate. From Branden Grace leading the charge individually, to a team performance that had the crowd believing deep into Sunday, the hosts more than played their part in shaping a memorable debut.

And perhaps that is the real takeaway - beyond the leaderboard, this was a statement.

South Africa has firmly announced itself as a powerhouse stop on the global golf calendar, with players and fans alike already calling it one of the standout events of the season.
