The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms across several parts of the country.
Heavy downpours, strong winds and possible localised flooding are expected in parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State, Northern Cape and North west.
Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela has warned that the conditions could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, roads and vulnerable townships.
"The South African Weather Service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, which means there is a high likelihood of minor impacts of heavy downpours that may lead to localized flooding, a possibility of damaging winds, as well as a possibility of hail and excessive lightning. These conditions are expected over the southern and eastern parts of Gauteng, into the Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, as well as covering the escarpments of Mpumalanga, stretching into the eastern parts of the Northwest"
