Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) said no major incidents have been reported across the city, despite heavy rainfall battering parts of Gauteng over the past two days.

This, as the metro continues to experience wet and overcast conditions, bringing thundershowers, reduced visibility and the risk of localised flooding.

EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said emergency and disaster management teams remain deployed and on standby.

“No major incidents have been reported overnight and this morning due to disruptive rainfall, which we have been receiving in most parts of Johannesburg in the last two days.”

Mulaudzi said motorists should exercise caution on the roads, as wet weather persists across Gauteng.

Slippery roads, reduced visibility and standing water remain a concern, with drivers reminded that stopping distances increase significantly on wet surfaces.

“We still continue to plead with our motorists to exercise caution while driving, extend a safe following distance, and try to avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges.”
