Residents in Johannesburg will have to submit requests to the metro’s City Parks and Zoo to bury their loved ones during the Easter long weekend, as burial and cremation services will be temporarily suspended.

Joburg City Park and Zoo said its teams will take a short break on 3 April and 6 April for the public holidays.

The entity's spokesperson, Jenny Moodley, further explained that services will be limited during this time.

“Burial and cremation services will unfortunately be limited and will not be available on Thursday, 3 April, which is Good Friday, and Sunday, 6 April, which is Easter Monday. As you will appreciate, our dedicated teams work continuously throughout the week, including public holidays, to ensure the dignified and efficient provision of cemetery and crematorium services across the City of Johannesburg.”

Arrangements for different religious groups have been made to accommodate affected communities.

“Muslim burials will continue to be accommodated, as arrangements are managed directly through the Johannesburg Muslim Burial Society, in line with religious requirements for timely interment,” said Moodley.

In addition to the arrangements, funeral directors and members of the public are urged to submit all requests by calling their offices before the specified dates.
