The Border Management Authority (BMA) says it has processed nearly 19,000 travellers at the Lebombo Border Post since the start of the Easter rush.
It adds that this number could rise to around 25,000 in the coming hours as more travellers make their way through the port.
BMA spokesperson Mmmeme Mogotsi said additional measures have been put in place to tighten security as the easter rush gets underway.
She said officials are using body cameras to monitor staff to ensure proper processing of travellers.

Mogotsi said travellers must have valid documents, including a valid machine-readable passport to pass through the country’s ports of entry.
"We are also monitoring the movements in terms of, you know, minor children that are coming into the port. It is a very big problem. We are also ensuring that they come with the relevant documents, parents should have given permission to adults that are traveling with children that are not their biological children. So we need an affidavit for the parents. We need a passport copy of that parent so that we are able to confirm. Those children must also have their own passports."
