The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will temporarily return its focus to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality, with the city’s suspended metro police deputy chief, Julius Mkhwanazi, scheduled to take the witness stand on Tuesday.
Mkhwanazi was due to appear at the commission in March; however, his testimony was postponed following the death of his mother.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) top cop faces a raft of corruption allegations, including using the metro police department as his own personal domain.

Mkhwanazi has previously appeared before the Madlanga Commission.
The suspended EMPD deputy chief’s last appearance at the witness stand was marked by him constantly wiping the sweat off his face and his nervous gulps of the commission's bottled water.
Mkhwanazi is accused of tying the EMPD to an irregular contract with the security company of tender tycoon Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala.
Previous witnesses allege Mkhwanazi improperly promoted metro police officers who were “loyal” to him.
He’s also implicated in the murder and subsequent cover-up of Emmanuel Mbense.
Mbhense was tortured to death by a group of police officers in 2022, with his body later dumped at a lake in Germiston, allegedly at the order of Mkhwanazi.
