The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the life sentence handed down to a 28-year-old woman for the repeated rape of her younger brother. The Madadeni Regional Court also added five years to her term for exposing the child to pornographic material.

The abuse occurred in Osizweni between 2022 and 2024. At the time the ordeal began, the victim was only eight years old. According to NPA spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara, the siblings lived together with their mother, and the woman exploited opportunities when they were left alone at home.

The court heard that the survivor was consistently threatened into silence, ensuring the abuse continued undetected for nearly two years. The accused pleaded guilty to the charges before sentencing.

Beyond the term of imprisonment, the court implemented further measures to ensure public safety and accountability:

Firearm Ineligibility: The woman was officially declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Sex Offenders Register: The court ordered that her name be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders.

"In addition to the sentence, the woman was declared unfit to possess a firearm and the court ordered that her name is entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders," confirmed Ramkisson-Kara.
