The South African Weather Service reports that cold, wet, and windy conditions have spread to the eastern and southern parts of the country, including several stretches of the southern and eastern coastline.
Temperatures are set to drop sharply across the region. Residents in high-lying inland areas should prepare for a significant chill, as daytime highs are expected to struggle to reach between 10°C and 12°C.
Senior forecaster Tokelo Chiloane warns that sea conditions will also worsen significantly. Wave heights are expected to reach 4 to 5 metres from Sunday into Monday, a development that is likely to disrupt coastal and beach activities.
The cold snap is expected to linger for several days. Chiloane notes that the noticeable drop in daytime temperatures and chilly conditions will be felt most acutely in the Western Cape and interior high-lying areas.
“Cold to cool temperatures are expected across much of the affected areas, with a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures and chilly conditions, especially in the Western Cape and interior high-lying areas. These conditions are expected to persist until Monday, 20 April, as another cold front is forecasted to make landfall over the Western Cape on Sunday.”
