No new cases of foot-and-mouth disease reported in WC in past month

The Western Cape is gaining ground in its fight against foot-and-mouth disease, with no new cases reported in the past month.
 
The last outbreak was recorded in the Garden Route District on 28 February. All recent suspected cases in Hessequa and Bonnievale have tested negative.

Provincial authorities said more than 161,000 vaccine doses have now been administered, as efforts to contain the disease continue.
 
The Western Cape has recorded 13 cases to date, while the Free State and North West remain the most affected.
 
Premier Alan Winde said strict surveillance, movement controls, and permit systems remain in place to prevent any resurgence.
 
"Which for me is really showcasing that the vaccine programme and the rollout risk analysis and vaccines in areas where we have breakouts, zap in very quickly, demarcate that area, vaccinate within a few kilometres of that specific case is really working."
