The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape said that those who have taken its provincial conference to court know they don't have the numbers to win.

Provincial Spokesperson Yanga Zicina said that while the conference hangs in the balance pending an appeal to an earlier interdict, members are in good spirits.

He said that delegates understand the internal problems facing the party in the province.

But Zicina said that the court challenge is all about the numbers.

"I think all those who are finding other routes to punch holes in our system are doing so because the democracy and the democratic processes may likely not favour them. So I can't preempt the outcomes, but I suspect that is probable."
