The African National Congress (ANC) is expected to release the results of its new Johannesburg leadership on Friday morning.

Dada Morero is seeking to retain his position as leader, but he faces strong competition from the widely supported Loyiso Masuku.

Delegates have been locked in discussions since Thursday at the three-day elective conference in Sandton.

According to the programme, voting was supposed to start at 3 pm on Thursday, but the process got underway in the early hours of Friday.

After nearly 24 hours of uninterrupted conference discussions, delegates finally cast their ballots, and the party’s electoral committee has been counting the votes.

It's a close contest between Morero and Masuku, with both candidates enjoying strong support from ANC branches across Johannesburg.
