Suspended Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has urged the public to look beyond emotion and sensationalism regarding his disbandment instruction of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

Mchunu has been outlining his reasons for issuing the instruction to have the task team disbanded at the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria.

He’s taken the commission through murder statistics over several years, comparing KwaZulu-Natal’s (KZN) overall murder stats with those that were politically motivated.

Mchunu knew his instruction of disbanding the PKTT would be met with criticism but claims he was looking at the bigger issue of combating crime in the country.

“I would be seen to be swimming against the sentiment, the general sentiment. But I said to myself that I don’t believe I was appointed for sentiment, I believe that I was appointed for honesty and reality as I see it in the portfolio and lead accordingly.
