JOHANNESBURG - In a move aimed at easing the concerns and frustrations of social grant beneficiaries, the deadline for swapping old gold SASSA cards for new Postbank black cards has been extended.

The new deadline is 20 March 2025.

Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Solly Malatsi and the Social Development Minister Nokuzola Tolashe said they had granted beneficiaries an additional three weeks to have their cards updated.

According to the ministers, the decision to extend the deadline was made after listening to the concerns of beneficiaries and taking into account the challenges faced during the swap process.

Department of Communications and Digital Technologies spokesperson, Kwena Moloto: "We strongly encourage all beneficiaries to make sure that they change to the black Postbank card, as soon as possible and way ahead of the 20th of March to avoid disruptions."

He assured that grant payments would continue uninterrupted even after the deadline.

"We will be working with our departments and entities to ensure that we add additional human capacity at all the service points so that those beneficiaries who are yet to swap their cards can be assisted at all times."
