Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety, Mngcini Tshwaku, suggests that popular DJ Warrick Stock may have been mistaken for the owner of a hijacked building while providing security services for the property.
Stock, widely known as DJ Warras, was gunned down on Tuesday just outside the Carlton Centre in the Johannesburg CBD.
While official investigations are currently underway, preliminary reports suggest that his murder could be linked to the work his security company was performing to recover a hijacked building.
Public Safety MMC Mngcini Tshwaku stated that Stock was killed while conducting oversight and preparing to enhance security measures at a building known as Zambezi.
"So Warrick went there to do oversight with some security company that's going to be putting biometrics and also put in CCTV," Tshwaku said. "The word on the ground of what we are gathering so far is that they sort of thought that Warrick was the owner. These people, they target owners. They assassinate owners so that the building remains [hijacked]."
