CAPE TOWN - Four men linked to multiple murders in Mfuleni township in Cape Town are expected to appear in court on Thursday.

They are accused of killing five people in the township on Sunday afternoon.

The bodies of the five men were found with bullet holes inside a shack at the Madikizela informal settlement.

The four alleged gunmen were arrested on Tuesday through an intelligence-driven operation by Cape Town SAPS detectives.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant-General Thembisile Patekile commended the officers who worked on this case for their swift action.

Patekile said that an assault rifle and three pistols were also seized as part of evidence.
 
"We believe that we have a strong case against them in relation to the murders that happened on that day," Patekile said.

He added that more police officers had been deployed to Mfuleni and other hot spot areas as the busy holiday season approaches.
