Help Streetscapes raise R250,000 to provide stable homes for the homeless

Streetscapes is a Cape Town-based non-profit organisation dedicated to ending homelessness by growing better lives.

The organisation strives to create a city where everyone belongs, and has a place to call home.

They provide job opportunities to those looking for a hand up, not a handout, and work together with those living on the street to transform and rehabilitate their lives.

The programme includes work, community connection, harm reduction, psychosocial support and shelter.

The City of Cape Town has offered Streetscapes the chance to buy seven residential building at a 90% discount, in order to transform them into second-phase housing for individuals who’ve already taken the courageous step off the streets and into work.

These homes offer the next critical step toward long-term independence: safe, stable housing close to employment, where dignity, community, and personal growth can flourish.

But to do this, the organisation urgently needs to raise R250,000 to secure the buildings... and will ultimately need a total of R2.5 million to purchase and revamp all the properties.

Laitinen says after members go through the programme at Streetscapes, they reintegrate into society and find a job, while Streetscapes supports individuals with a roof over their head in the middle of the City's CBD, close to where jobs are.
