Hybrid workouts and mindfulness dominate 2025 fitness trends

From extra walks to high-intensity workouts, it is clear that fitness and wellness were at the center of 2025 for most people.
Reflecting on the trends that dominated the year, personal trainer Lucas Mthenjane says it was all about hybrid workouts, which combine strength training and cardio.
Low-impact exercises were also a big favourite; these include reformer pilates and hot yoga.
Mthenjane says women are increasingly participating in weight training.

“There is a sense of community and gathering. They are being driven more to get into the weight room, start pushing weights, and challenge their physicality.”
This year also saw a shift towards a more mindful approach, with a focus on progress over punishment.
He recommends short, more intentional workouts that target the entire body, incorporating strength training, mobility, and flexibility.
This will allow individuals to achieve results without sacrificing their well-being.

“The goal has shifted from punishment to progress, you repeat progress, and it makes you see results and want to go back more.” Mthenjane says.
