947’s Mo Flava chats to actress and comedian, Nina Hastie.
Listen below:
Hastie is a household name in Mzansi’s comedy scene, bringing laughs and good vibes to stages across the country.
She recently co-hosted the Comics Choice Awards and even worked as a creative director on Trevor Noah’s infamous tourism advert.
It has always been important for her to expand her skills… and who wouldn’t want to work with Trevor Noah?!
“When you are working with someone like Trevor, it would be remiss of you not to literally lean into them as the creative genius… I [briefly] studied film… that was always my dream to be behind the scenes.”
– Nina Hastie, comedian
With all the hats she wears in her career, Hastie says she loves receiving feedback to improve her work continually.
Yes, even when it comes to her stand-up comedy.
“If I have offended or hurt someone, I’d like to get that feedback so that I know and I can make an adjustment. A lot of people get off on offending people [but] I don’t like hurting people on purpose.”
– Nina Hastie, comedian
The public has gotten to know a more personal side of Hastie through her podcast YouTube channel ‘Otherwise, you well?’.
Born in lockdown, the podcast is ultimately a conversation about getting to know yourself better, your well-being, and mental health.
“It is not therapy… it is a conversation that bridges the gap between therapy and everyday life. I wanna show people what a conversation can look like between two people that are interested in getting to know themselves.”
