Higher Education Minister Nobuhle Nkabane was supposed to give Members of Parliament a briefing on the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) board selection process on Friday.

However, she chose not to be present. Instead, she attended a student induction and Mandela Day event at a TVET college in East London.

Letsie says Nkabane informed him on Tuesday that she would not be attending; however, he rejected the apology and said she must be there in person.

“It is clear that all members of the committee were very unhappy with the minister not coming to parliament. We felt the minister wants to dictate what kind of oversight mechanism must be applied to her.”
- Tebogo Letsie, Chairperson - Portfolio Committee on Higher Education
“If she does not appear in parliament tomorrow, she will be summoned. I don’t think we will get to that. I think she will come.”
