DURBAN - The N2 highway has been closed in the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) due to snowfall as inclement weather conditions continue in parts of province.
Since Monday night, thick snowfall was experienced around Kokstad, Mzimkhulu, and Port Shepstone.
KZN faces are level 2 and 4 alerts for inclement weather conditions, including rain, hailstorm, and thunderstorms in some parts.
The Department of Transport in the province has urged people to avoid the national route at all costs.
“The Road Traffic Inspectorate team is working with traffic police from Kokstad and Ray Nkonyeni local municipalities to redirect motorists and to clear the snow,” said department spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya.
He said traffic authorities are now working on other possible road closures.
“Traffic officers from road safety and traffic inspectorate are already involved in the coordination of road closures and observation of major routes.”
