JOHANNESBURG - A decision by the Gauteng Education Department to build a new school and replace in Alrapark has been praised by the Nigel community.
Learners in the area have had to grapple with attending classes in dilapidated structures since 2013.
They will return to school in phases from the end of this week, and teaching will be conducted in mobile classrooms while the new school is being built.
A parent from Alrapark Primary, Annalese Thompson, said while they were pleased with the MEC’s commitment, they would monitor that it's honoured.
"I am happy for that because our first cry was that they need to fix the small things before they think about the big things, so that our children can be healthy, so that our children can be taken for proper schooling, because as a parent, you know the condition that the child is in and you don't feel at ease because anything can happen."
The MEC has promised to rebuild a new school in 18 months.
