KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli insists he was never worried about the motion of no confidence tabled against him by the uMkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party.

The motion, heard on Monday afternoon, ultimately failed after voting could not proceed due to significant disruptions in the legislature.

Tensions rose in the legislature after the MK Party and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) pushed for a secret ballot during the voting process.

Speaking to the media following the failed attempt to oust him, Ntuli accused the MK Party of being power hungry.

The Premier had remained adamant he was going nowhere even before the motion was heard. After retaining his position, he reiterated this stance, insisting that the coalition government in KwaZulu-Natal is here to stay.

He accused the official opposition, the MK Party, and the EFF of wanting to cause instability in the province.

“When we were voted in as the Government of Provincial Unity (GPU), the EFF and MK Party did not vote for the GPU, so there was nothing to what was happening today—they were just creating chaos,” Ntuli stated.

Ntuli described the chaos inside the house as uncalled for and expressed disappointment that the legislature was not focused on citizens' needs.

“It is a shame that the people of KwaZulu-Natal think that as leaders here we are taking decisions that will address their challenges, but what we are doing here we see MK Party and EFF creating chaos with lots of unnecessary accusing of a government that is failing,” he said.

Ntuli confirmed he will be continuing with his duties and will welcome the President to the province tomorrow for the Reconciliation Day commemoration event.
