The Madlanga inquiry into political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system is set to commence on 17 September.

The commission was established following allegations of corruption and collusion in law enforcement by KZN police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

There will also be a separate Parliamentary inquiry into the allegations, which will be running at the same time.

Mkhwanazi has said he will be involved with the Madlanga inquiry until 24 September and will only be available for the parliamentary inquiry after this.

EFF leader Julius Malema says Mkhwanazi must be summoned to the parliamentary ad hoc committee; however, Lekganyane believes it is too early to consider this.

“The letter that he wrote to us is a letter that shows willingness on his part to cooperate with the Ad Hoc Committee, and unfortunately, he finds himself in a situation where he cannot divide himself into two halves.”
- Soviet Lekganyane, MP - ANC

Lekganyane adds that many of the witnesses will find themselves in the same position, and the committee must ensure they do not make the situation more difficult than necessary.
