CAPE TOWN - The University of Cape Town on Wednesday hosted the official renaming ceremony of its Sarah Baartman Hall.
The hall was previously called the Jameson Memorial Hall, but seven years ago, the UCT council embarked on the name-changing process.
The university says the official name change was delayed due to factors such as the COVID-19 pandemic.
UCT Chancellor, Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, said the renaming of the hall changes how they honour those whose stories were never told.
"We thank the council and the leadership of 2018 for their foresight and conviction, their decision was part of UCT’s ongoing commitment to transformation, reimagining our spaces and histories."
