Management at the University of Fort Hare has condemned in the strongest terms the acts of violence at the Alice campus this week.
The university's spokesperson, JP Roodt, said the torching of two buildings housing exam papers at the institution is tantamount to a coordinated terrorism effort.
Students have been demonstrating over what they’ve termed Vice Chancellor Sakhela Buhlungu's "failure" to address mismanagement at the institution.
Students are also aggrieved by the suspension of the SRC president and the institution's plan to appoint interim student leadership.
Roodt further explained: “These are properties that were recently refurbished. We’ve seen the agricultural laboratory, newly refurbished, which came on last year; we are seeing that the main administration building was targeted. Something has gone from an unrest to something that became an act of terrorism.”
