The Kfm Mornings team recently asked a question to their young listeners, one that pops up around this time each year... especially for parents with kids in Grades 10, 11, or 12:
"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
It’s not always an easy one to answer. As Darren pointed out, most kids don’t really know yet, and that’s okay.
With technology evolving rapidly, it’s entirely possible that the perfect job for your child doesn’t even exist yet. Think about it: careers in coding, content creation, and digital marketing barely existed just a decade ago.
So, how are the next generation prepping for a world of flexible, ever-changing careers?
Then vs Now...
Fun fact: two years ago, the Kfm team asked their younger listeners what they wanted to be when they grew up and the top answer was YouTuber or social media influencer.
But things have shifted.
Darren got his hands on a new report revealing what kids today are aspiring to, and the results might surprise you:
Top three career choices for boys:
-
Scientist
-
Engineer
-
Video game designer / Tech developer
Top three career choices for girls:
-

Interestingly, content creation and influencer careers have dropped to number 10 on the list.

Sherlin adds:
"Hold on to that excitement."
And Sibs leaves us with this gem:
"Your first choice is not your only choice... you can do multiple things over a lifetime."
