Worcester’s iconic Kleinplasie goes up for auction from 17 to 18 September

The iconic Kleinplasie in Worcester is going up for auction.

The property, currently owned by the Breede Valley Local Municipality will be available via online auction from Wednesday, 17 to Thursday, 18 September. The sale presents a unique opportunity to unlock new housing, job creation, and economic development in the region.

According to Stafanutto, the property has already sparked interest among developers who recognise its immense potential as one of the Breede Valley’s crown jewels.

Despite the upcoming auction, Kleinplasie Museum, a beloved institution managed by the Western Cape Government, remains fully operational.

Stafanutto says we will see more of this happening as demand for housing and limited space becomes a growing issue.

"In the Metro, things have become expensive and subsequent to the pandemic, people don't need to commute into the office everyday, we're seeing this hybrid model of people wanting to live further away and there's an incredible shortage of land... so Metro's are under pressure, there's nowhere to develop which is a big problem... a lot of people living in areas like the Atlantic Seaboard or Southern Suburbs where they're suddenly seeing high rates on properties so they're able to sell those properties and put a nest egg away and then move out to outlying areas and remain in the Western Cape... it's peaceful out there and a wonderful place to live in these smaller towns."
