KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi will meet with the evidence leader of Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption on Monday for a final consultation before he gives testimony on Tuesday.

Mkhwanazi will give evidence to the ad hoc committee inquiry for two days but will receive a final briefing with evidence leader Advocate Norman Arendse before he faces members of the committee.

Arendse says Mkhwanazi needs to be consulted about the different approach the committee will take as compared to the Madlanga Commission, where Mkhwanazi has already appeared.

Arendse told the committee on Friday that all plans were in place for the first interaction with Mkhwanazi to interrogate the allegations of corruption in the criminal justice system that he made at a press conference in July.

He said the legal team was still finalising witness statements due to some delays in getting documents from witnesses.

Arendse will on Monday make final arrangements with Mkhwanazi before he takes to the stand, to explain the different approach the committee will take when leading evidence.

"We will be having a further consultation with General Mkhwanazi on monday to discuss some of these differences with him so that he’s not caught by surprise."

Parliament also said it was ready to conduct the hearings at its Good Hope Chamber and security would be beefed up for Mkhwanazi’s appearance.
