ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula revealed that there’s no need to ask the former ANC president Jacob Zuma to explain why he shouldn’t be suspended.

JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) said there’s no turning back as it decided to suspend its former party president Jacob Zuma from the organisation.

The party’s Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula confirmed that the party would place Zuma on immediate suspension for de-campaigning the party.

Zuma has been the public face of the newly registered uMkhonto Wesizwe Party as he mobilises against the governing party ahead of the fast-approaching general elections.

Mbalula said the party’s done nothing to the former president. He also said Zuma has not shared any of his concerns about the state of the organisation with any of its leaders.

The ANC has reached a conclusion on the way forward on this matter, added Mbalula.

He further noted that there’s no need to ask Zuma to explain why he shouldn’t be suspended.

"If it is justifiable, exceptional circumstances, that warrant the decision of temporary suspension of a member without eliciting comment or a response of such a member as contemplated. You can take that decision and former president Zuma has made that case beyond reasonable doubt."
