1O EMPD officers arrested on theft and corruption allegations

JOHANNESBURG - Ten Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department officers have been arrested on corruption and theft allegations.
The group is being probed by the independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for allegedly taking a large sum of money during a raid in June.
In addition, IPID said the group seized merchandise from a shop in Edenvale and failed to record stock accordingly.
IPID spokesperson Lizzy Suping said the officers will make their first appearance at the Germiston Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
“The members were arrested today while on duty and will appear before court tomorrow. All arrested officers are Constables and one Sergeant and are detained at the Germiston Police Station.”
