JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has slammed its former leaders for suggesting the general elections would be rigged.

Recently, former President Jacob Zuma cast doubt on the counting process during elections, questioning why it was conducted behind closed doors.

The party's expelled former secretary-general, Ace Magashule, also told the media recently that he knew how elections could be rigged.

Magashule failed to provide evidence of his claims.

On Monday, ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula told a media briefing in Boksburg that attempts to delegitimise the elections could potentially give rise to unrest.

"The ANC categorically suggests the dangerous suggestion that our electoral system can and will be manipulated. The Independent Electoral Committee is one of the most trusted public institutions. The entire voting process and counting process are monitored by party agents from all competing parties."
