JOHANNESBURG - The family members of a man who succumbed to the recent fire in the Johannesburg CBD say they are still waiting for his remains to be released so that he can be buried.

Sizwe Cele and his girlfriend were burnt beyond recognition in the Nugget Street building fire two weeks ago.

Speaking to Eyewitness News outside the Johannesburg Magistrates Court, Cele’s uncle , Msongelo Mnisi, said it’s unclear which remains are his nephews between the two charred bodies that were discovered in the burnt building.
 
He added that relatives are awaiting DNA sample results from pathologists.

"We are just at limbo at this point in time. We are just pinning are hopes that maybe during the course of the week that the results will be finalised. Because last week that's what the authorities or detectives said so that we can have closure."

Meanwhile, the woman accused of starting the blaze, Bonisiwe Gumede, made a brief appearance in court.

It’s understood that she ignited the fire following a lover’s quarrel.

The case was postponed for a week for further investigation.
