Four dead, two arrested in Soweto shootout with police

Four suspected criminals were killed in a shootout with police in Mofolo, Soweto, this evening. Two additional suspects were arrested, while one remains at large.

According to police, a multi-disciplinary team, which included the Hawks, acted on intelligence regarding a planned robbery at a local business earlier in the day.

The suspects were spotted near the targeted premises. Upon realising they were under surveillance, the group split up and attempted to flee in two separate vehicles.

A high-speed chase ensued through the streets of Soweto, ultimately ending in a deadly exchange of gunfire between the suspects and law enforcement.

The scene remains active as authorities search for the final suspect who managed to evade capture.
