Ramaphosa hosts presidential Golf Day one day after SONA

On Thursday night President Cyril Ramaphosa delivered the final State of the Nation Address of the 6th parliament.
In his speech drew mixed reactions from the public, many of whom were disappointed at the lack of clear strategies to fix the country’s problems.
Now, one day later, Ramaphosa hosts the presidential golf day challenge.

SONA only focused on ‘selective successes’ – political analyst
At last nights State of the Nation Address Ramaphosa spoke about progress in addressing issues such as loadshedding, rail system rehabilitation, road maintenance, port efficiency, and reducing unemployment.
However, many feel he used this an opportunity to campaign for the ANC ahead of the elections.
Dr Ongama Mtinka, Political Analyst, says these addresses are usually skewed as the president will only spoke about selective successes.
He says that the government has had some successes that are worth reflecting on but we should not become victims of political spin.

Electricity minister says we have turned a corner in loadshedding
Electricity Minister, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says that if you compare where we were in 2022, it is clear that improvements have been made with regards to our electricity crisis.
He adds that he is confident we will see the intensity of loadshedding going down.

ActionSA Eastern Cape chair Athol Trollip says that he is unconvinced by the presidents ‘Tintswalo’ as so many South Africans are still suffering.
He says that the lived reality of ‘Tintswalo’ in the Easter Cape is a lack of water, electricity, and service delivery.

Gauteng Education MEC visits family of victim of school stabbing incident
Matome Chiloane, Gauteng Education MEC, will visit the family of a deceased pupil who was killed in a stabbing incident at school.
The incident involved learners and took place at Oakdale secondary school in Ennerdale, and one grade 8 pupil was killed while another is in hospital.
However, a relative of one of the boys says they are not satisfied with how the MEC handled this situation.

Alleged serial killer Sifiso Mkhwanazi’s confession to be used in court
Mkhwanazi is in the Johannesburg high court sitting in Palm Ridge for the outcome of his trial within a trial.
He is accused of killing several sex workers.
Mkhwanazi confessed to his father and the court has found that this will be admissible in court, as it was given freely.

Senzo Meyiwa's murder trial continues in the Pretoria High Court
The court is still dealing with a trial within a trial where two of the accused are claiming their confessions are inadmissible.
Accused number 1 and 2 have argued that their confession statements were not freely given, and they were coerced into signing.
