JOHANNESBURG - Known as one of the best restaurants in South Africa, award-winning V&A Waterfront restaurant Emazulwini, is closing its doors, on 25 February.

Emazuwlini is a contemporary Zulu-inspired restaurant that honours Nguni cuisine and South African ingredients. The restaurant launched in 2020 at Makers Landing at the V&A Waterfront after owner and chef Mmabatho Molefe lost her career in the culinary sector during the pandemic.

Molefe recently posted on Instagram the restaurant would be closing. Molefe added that while they had developed, worked together, and encountered some of the greatest individuals they had ever met, the opportunity to feed and serve others had been the highlight of the experience.

“The past three years have gone by quicker than expected. Starting out as a 10-seater restaurant with three chefs, a waiter, and no sculler, is definitely how I would do it again. It has come to the time we can officially announce that our time at Makers Landing has come to an end and we will be closing our doors on the 25th of February," said the Instagram post.

The restaurant leaves a lasting impression on the dining scene, having just won the Luxe Restaurant Awards in 2022, where it was named African Restaurant of the Year.
