JOHANNESBURG - The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) said South Africans had until 4 March to submit objections regarding the eligibility of any citizen voting in the upcoming general elections.

On Monday, the commission gave an update on the state of readiness for the national elections to be held on 29 May.

It said a provisional voters roll will be published on Monday, with the final one set for publication in April.

At least 27.6 million South Africans are expected to cast their ballot, in the country's seventh democratic election.

Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo: "The objections received on or before 4th March will be considered, investigated and determined by the commission by the 11th of March this year."

Mamabolo said a successful objection application must meet specific requirements.

"It's important to remind role players that objections to the voters roll are governed by the law. As such, both procedural and substantive requirements of section 15 of the electoral act must be satisfied when lodging an objection."
