JOHANNESBURG - Who paid the R800,000 for the murder of Kiernan “AKA” Forbes?

That’s the big question police have yet to answer following the arrest of seven men in connection with the murders of Forbes and his celebrity chef, friend Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane.

Five of the seven accused appeared in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning where two counts of money laundering were added to their charge sheet.

The men are also charged with a double murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition and conspiracy to commit murder.

Durban businessman Mziwethemba Gwabeni has been fingered as a central figure in the murder of AKA with the state alleging he received an amount of just over R800,000 (R803,455.00) to kill the South African rapper.

The state alleges Gwabeni used his business, Gwabs Mining, to receive the cash and distribute it to the bank accounts of his six co-accused, which includes two men in Eswatini.

Papers filed in the Durban Magistrate’s court claim Gwabeni received the money under the pretext of services of consults being rendered without being able to justify the cause.

But the question remains who paid Gwabeni the money?

And while police have been mum on investigations, they have not ruled out more arrests.
