Residents who receive social grants may also apply as well as people with a pension of less than R22 000 per month.
"Everyone who has a monthly income of less that R7500 could receive a 100% rates rebate for property rates."

"All residential properties valued up to R5 million, those properties will receive a reduction of R450 000 in their property valuation rates."
- Councillor Siseko Mbandezi, City of Cape Town
Mbandezi says the City cannot provide blanket relief for all pensioners but hopes to assist as many people as possible.
"As of 31 January 2024, a total of 10 156 residents meet the criteria for pension and social grant support and are registered to receive rates rebates for the 2023/24 financial year."
