Calm restored in Joburg south after police dispersed protesters from Diepkloof hostel
The N12 east and the N1 north freeway at the Diepkloof Interchange has been reopened for traffic to flow after being blocked with burning tyres by protestors on Monday morning.

JOHANNESBURG - Calm has been restored in the south of Johannesburg after police dispersed protesters from the Diepkloof hostel who blockaded the highway.
The N12 east and the N1 north freeway at the Diepkloof Interchange were blocked with burning tyres, forcing motorists to make a turn.
The residents sent warnings on social media of a shutdown over water, electricity and housing.
About 100 hostel residents were dispersed after clashes with police on Monday morning.
They hurled rocks, glass bottles, animal carcasses and other dangerous objects at police and motorists along the highway.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) spokesperson Xolani Fihla said the route is now clear.
“The N12 East at the Diepkloof interchange next to the Diepkloof hostel has been reopened for traffic to flow. This following a closure by residents of the hostel who are embarking on a protest regarding service delivery.”
Police said suspects would be arrested and charged with public violence.
