GOOD party leader Patricia de Lille unveiled her manifesto in Sandton on Saturday, promising a R999 basic income grant if her party secures power in the upcoming polls.
Joining the race for the Western Cape are notable figures such as the PA’s Gayton Mckenzie, RISE Mzansi’s Axolile Notywala, ActionSA’s Angela Sobey, who launched her candidacy in Manenberg last week, and the incumbent premier, the DA’s Alan Winde.
The Western Cape emerges as a fiercely contested battleground ahead of the elections, with dissatisfaction brewing over the DA's governance, says Sussman.
He highlights the PA and GOOD party as fielding strong candidates they believe will resonate with Western Cape voters.
Kiewit raises a pertinent question about why national leaders are entering the provincial election fray.
Sussman argues that it makes sense for de Lille, given her past role as Cape Town's mayor.
However, he questions whether Mckenzie can maintain his appeal to Western Cape voters as effectively as he did in Eldorado Park, Gauteng.
Leadership qualities and personalities, Sussman concludes, play a significant role in the electoral landscape.
