Two paramedics died on Saturday morning after an ambulance on its way to attend to an accident scene collided with another vehicle on the R81 in Limpopo.

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Emergency Personnel's Union has called on the Limpopo Department of Health department to provide counselling to emergency medical services (EMS) officials who may be struggling to deal with the loss of two of their members.

Two paramedics died on Saturday morning after an ambulance on its way to attend to an accident scene collided with another vehicle on the R81 in Limpopo.

Three other victims, who sustained injuries from the accident, have been taken to hospital.

Union spokesperson Mpho Mpogeng says an investigation into the deadly crash is necessary.

"We must also take into consideration the issue of roadworthy ambulances that might also be a problem," said Mpogeng.
