Two paramedics died on Saturday morning after the ambulance crashed while en route to an accident scene on the R81.

JOHANNESBURG - Limpopo Health MEC Phophi Ramathuba is set to visit the survivors of a head-on collision between an ambulance and an SUV on Sunday.

All the occupants of the SUV survived and are currently receiving medical treatment at various hospitals.

Ramathuba has extended her condolences to the families of the victims. She further expressed deep sadness following the fatal crash.

Meanwhile, the South African Emergency Personnel Union has called on the provincial Department of Health to counsel emergency medical services officials who may be struggling to come to terms with their colleagues’ passing.

We must also take into consideration the issue of roadworthy ambulances and that might also be a problem," said union spokesperson Mpho Mpogeng.
