JOHANNESBURG - The Ekurhuleni council is set to hold its fourth mayoral election in three years on Thursday.

Since the local government elections in 2021, the Democratic Alliance’s (DA) Tania Campbell served two terms as the metro’s number one citizen.
The removal of Ngodwana as mayor rocked the political landscape in Ekurhuleni.
The relationship between the African National Congress (ANC) and Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) remains fractured, with both parties hurling insults at each other.
The influential Super Seven, a group of seven small political parties, promised retaliation following the removal of their member, Ngodwana.
Meanwhile, parties from the DA-led coalition do not have enough seats to form a stable government.
Leaders from the big political parties have remained tight-lipped on who they will be putting forward as their mayoral candidates.
