KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has urged the province’s Council Against Crime to develop targeted strategies to curb the surge of cash-in-transit (CIT) heists in identified hotspot areas.

Representatives from the provincial administration and local municipalities are currently meeting with various law enforcement agencies to address the province's alarming crime rates. CIT heists have dominated the agenda following a recent spike in violent attacks. Just last week, a vehicle transporting cash was targeted and blown up on the N2 highway.

Premier Ntuli emphasised that the provincial government must find a definitive way to halt these incidents and questioned the current lack of oversight in high-risk zones.

“It seems as if criminals have identified that spot as an easy spot to conduct this kind of crime. What is the government's plan to ensure that there’s police visibility there or security in that area?” Ntuli asked.
