Speaking to Thando Thabethe and Matt Flax on Drive with Thando (947) ahead of the awards, Lottering says he is honoured to be recognised.

However, it is important to remember that accolades don’t necessarily define who we are, he added.

“I’ve worked for more than 20 years, I flippen love what I am doing and you cannot be sidetracked thinking ‘if I don’t get an award for something, that means that I’m not doing an amazing job’.”

He recalls the hardships of being a comedian in the early 2000’s when it wasn’t as easy as posting a video online to get people to come to your show.

“You had to book a venue, you had to not sleep for a good few nights to make sure that people come and watch. I’m glad that I came through at that time because now everything else is a breeze.”
