CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) leader John Steenhuisen said that the Public Protector must investigate the African National Congress (ANC) for abuse of public resources as part of an election campaign.
Steenhuisen accused the ANC and its president, Cyril Ramaphosa, of manipulating South Africans by making promises around job creation using a taxpayer-funded scheme.
Steenhuisen was addressing party supporters at Cape Town City Hall on Tuesday as part of the DA's Rescue South Africa tour.
The party also launched its election campaign anthem written by former Idols contestant, Lloyd Cele.
The DA was back in Cape Town to continue its Rescue South Africa tour and launch its campaign anthem.
Steenhuisen also used the event to slam the ANC, telling people how they’d been manipulated by the governing party during its campaign.
"We're going to lay a complaint with the Public Protector, against Cyril Ramaphosa for his latest manipulation scheme. At an ANC campaign on Saturday, he promised the crowd there 500,000 skills training and job opportunities, not using the ANC's money, using taxpayers' money."
Steenhuisen said that another ANC manipulation is that the party will work with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) because they've realised they won't get an outright majority after the polls.
