JOHANNESBURG - The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) said it couldn’t accept reasons put forward by Lennit Max that he was leaving the party because it’s a "racist Boere" party.
Its head of elections, Wouter Wessels, told Eyewitness News that Max’s claims were unfounded.
Max quit the party this week, claiming coloured people were subjected to name-calling in the organisation, further claiming the FF Plus was attempting to take the country back to the pre-1994 era.
Wessels said the party believed in giving equal opportunities for all, pointing out that Max held several posts in the FF Plus, including being a provincial deputy chair and serving in its national council.
He said those found guilty of racism in the right-leaning party had their membership terminated.
Wessels also took a swipe at Max - who’s been part of the Independent Democrats (ID), African National Congress (ANC), and Democratic Alliance (DA) - for playing musical chairs across the political landscape.
"We wish Lennit Max all the best with his future endeavours. We cannot accept that what he is claiming is the actual reason why he's leaving the FF Plus, as he’s left many other political parties in the past and it seems as though it's not a coincidence, and it is quite a pattern."
