Hawks nab suspect linked with murder of cop in Philippi

CAPE TOWN - Hawks officers have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a police officer in Philippi.
The 33-year-old man was nabbed on Tuesday.
In September, two off-duty police officials were sitting in a private vehicle in Samora Machel, when they were allegedly approached by two gunmen who opened fire.
One of the officers was killed and the other was wounded.
Hawks spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi: "The Hawks investigated the matter and the arrest was effected after a warrant of arrest was issued. The suspect will make his first appearance at the Athlone Magistrates Court on 23 May 2024. The provincial head of the Hawks, Major-General Makgato expressed his satisfaction towards the strides made by the investigators in solving police killings in the province by bringing the alleged perpetrators to justice."
