CAPE TOWN - The University of Cape Town (UCT) will unveil its new vice chancellor (VC) on Friday, following a search that has taken more than a year.
The position became vacant after Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng took early retirement from her position in March 2023.
Professor Daya Reddy was roped in two weeks later to take over the reins in the interim.
In December, the search for UCT's new head began and applications were opened until the end of January.
The university's council said it was looking for a candidate that would steer the institution towards its vision of excellence, transformation, and sustainability.
The university said its aim was to strengthen its position as the number one university in Africa.
